Welcome to the LDW Blog!
UPDATE FROM JIM CROWE, DIRECTOR
Nov 5th:
Back to work after half term. Kicked off with a meeting of the Disabled Children Matter Wales steering committee. Its been difficult to get a date that we can all do, but very useful so that we can think through and agree the strategy and tactics for the campaign in the light of the failure of our grant bid to a trust and the imminent announcement by the Welsh Assembly Government of its budget for next year.
Discussions then with Kai about progress with revamp of website.hes been working on major changes and we are now very nearly ready to launch it.
Finally go to meeting of Community Living Network of adult providers. Detailed discussions there about material they will be putting on their pages in the new website and about plans to work in partnership with commissioners to improve practice.
Nov 6th:
Chaired meeting of Strategic Group of S E Wales Social Care Partnership.(SCIPSe).First meeting after election so opportunity to review our plans and get “volunteers” to act as Task Group Chairs. Also have elections for our honorary officers and I am quickly ” volunteered” TO chair the partnership for the next year!
PM Joined other members of the DCMW campaign who have been meeting Assembly members individually to lobby them about the campaign and get their support. Up and down experience so far I gather. We meet Helen Mary Jones from Plaid. Her views give us some thinking to do!
Nov 7th:
Attend All Wales Vulnerable Adults Advisory Group in Llandinam= Girl Guide Centre but very good place for a meeting. Packed agenda runs from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Dear old Cardiff traffic plus multiple cattle wagons, tractors etc mean I get there at 10.30= very frustrating!!
Many topics discussed including new safeguarding legislation, links with regional forums, our work plan for 2008, reviewing purpose and use of all Wales website.
Then Travel to Birmingham ready to fly to Lisbon tomorrow for the EASPD(European Association of Service Providers for People with Disabilities) meeting. Check in to hotel at 8,45pm - quite a long day!!
